Maroon 5 made a big announcement over the weekend about the band’s Super Bowl LIII halftime performance. The pop group shared an Instagram video revealing that ATL’s Outkast member Big Boi has agreed to take the Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium stage on February 5.
Now black folks all over the internet are big mad because of the controversy over “taking a knee” during the National Anthem. The NFL basically black balled Collin Kapernick, and many other players bold enough to take a stance on the injustices of Black people in America.
Jay-Z tried to get Travis Scott not to perform, but you know he wasn’t listening to old man jigga. Instead Travis Scott made the NFL donate to a charity in return for his performance.
According to a 2015 interview with ESPN’s The Dan LeBatard Show, Outkast once turned down an offer to perform at the Super Bowl. Big Boi revealed it was André 3000 who decided not to do the show.
“We were supposed to perform at the Super Bowl,” Big Boi said. “But we had two songs, ‘The Way You Move’ and ‘Hey Ya’ and Dre didn’t want to split the songs up. He didn’t want to cut the songs. He wanted to do both songs. They was like, ‘Y’all can’t do it.’”
