Kimora Lee Simmons has brought Baby Phat from Kellwood Co. ,and plans on bringing the early 2000’s fashion staple back. Every Teen Mom back in the day had a Baby Phat coat to conceal their growing baby bumps!
Kimora plans on having her two daughters19 year old Ming ,and 16 year old Aoki will also play integral roles in the brand’s relaunch. Ming uploaded the announcement to her Instagram.
During an interview with Bloomberg TV, Kimora discussed why the Baby Phat relaunch is so important for the culture.
“It’s very important that you have women on both sides — women as the end user, women as the creator,” she said. “We need to take more of that responsibility and own it.”
Baby Phat’s original parent/owner, Phat Fashion, was founded by her ex husband Russell Simmons over 25 years ago, while Kimora served as Baby Phat’s creative director from 2000 to 2010.
In 2004, the company was acquired by Kellwood Co. for $140 million. Kimora didn’t dicuss the detail, but said she had to look around for the owners. Back in the day the company brought in a total of $1 billion in sales!
